Pushed to the periphery: How social media has re-defined the business of connecting to content
The main difference in the media audiences of today is that they are very active content producers as well as consumers. This activity, including behaviors generally understood as "social media interaction" creates a new set of requirements for message design and business-customer interplay.
Steve Masiclat, Associate Professor and Chair, Syracuse University
Stephen Masiclat is director of the graduate program in Media Management at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. A member of the News and Online Journalism department, he joined the faculty in 1995 and created the School’s first classes in web and online media. In addition to teaching at the Newhouse School, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of LegendsChannel.com and is a principal of 315 Design, a communications and online design and communications consultancy he co-founded with two of his former students. He was a 2007 participant in IBM’s Global Innovation Outlook research in media and entertainment business conducting research in media businesses in North America, Europe and Asia. A distinguished teacher, he is the only Newhouse faculty member to receive both of the Newhouse School award for undergraduate teaching excellence (2000 ), and the University Excellence in Graduate Education Award (2010).

About Social Media Breakfast
Social Media Breakfast was founded by Bryan Person in August 2007 as an event where social media experts and newbies alike come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new-media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend.
The breakfast series began in Boston and has now spread to more than 35 cities throughout the United States and around the world. It was brought to Tech Valley by Amy Mengel in June 2009.
